Window Treatment Tricks

Eastern MA Window Treatment Tricks

There are actually many different ways that you can install window treatments, and each has a different functionality and impact on your home’s decor. You can incorporate different techniques to make a room look larger, feel brighter, create focal points, etc. If you’re looking to install new window treatments in your home, consider these window treatment tricks.

Curtain Length

Curtain length is a matter of preference, but there are some additional considerations. If you plan to purchase curtains off the shelf, then you will need to stick with standard lengths. There are really only a few lengths commonly offered. If you are going with custom curtains, then you have complete flexibility. You will want to decide this before determining where to place your curtain rods relative to the windows.

Curtain Rod Placement

There’s a lot of flexibility when it comes to curtain rod placement. For instance, you can place rods just above the windows or closer to the ceiling. Placing rods near the ceiling and using full length curtains that extend down to the floors can make the space seem taller. Horizontally, the rods can extend just beyond the edge of the sills, go inches or a foot past it, or even extend the full length of the wall. Staying near the windows allows you to frame just the windows. If you prefer to pull the curtains to the side and expose the entire window pane for maximum light exposure, then it makes sense to extend by several inches to the left and right. Spanning the full wall can offer a dramatic touch. It all depends on the look your window treatment goals.

Materials, Patterns, and Colors

Selecting the right material, pattern, and colors is one of the most difficult decisions when it comes to window treatments. Your curtains should tie in properly with the rest of your decor. It helps to make some selections together. For instance, if you paint your walls without any thought to curtains, you may spend a lot of time searching for the perfect curtains, only to realize that another color would have worked better. Deciding on the two, walls and curtains, together can save you time. Consult with an interior designer if you’d like suggestions with combinations that work well together.

Combining with Shades and Blinds

If you are installing curtains in your home, this doesn’t exclude the use of shades or blinds. Many times, the two can be combined! Curtains versus shades/blinds can perform different functions when it comes to privacy, natural lighting, and decor. They can often work well together to accomplish your overall goals.
